Today, the quality of products and services produced in Asia has evolved significantly so as to go beyond the quality standards of the World Market. Therefore, Asia is called as "Plant of the World". As a positive response to this trend, we established Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) in November, 2002. We recognize the most important mission of ANQ as providing a platform and an opportunity for enhanced learning of knowledge and experiences about quality obtained by the member organizations. For this mission, it is most important to exchange the ideas among all quality related experts, researchers, practitioners and students, especially, quality related young people. For this, the First ANQ Congress & the 17th Asia Quality Symposium in Beijing will provide a wonderful opportunity to all the participants.

INVITATION

Under the circumstances of economic globalization, Asia has become the most dynamic area in terms of economic development, and quality has become the key to the sustainable and steady development of Asian economy. The Asia Quality Symposium (AQS) aims to promote science and technology exchange concerning quality for the sound development of Asia through "quality". It has been held every year since 1986. In order to further accelerate the quality evolution in Asia, it was decided to expand AQS and establish Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) in 2002. The First ANQ Congress& the 17th Asia Quality Symposium will be hosted by China Association for Quality (CAQ) in Beijing in 2003.

The theme is: Quality -the Guarantee of the Sustainable Development of Asian Economy.

CAQ, on behalf of ANQ, sincerely invites quality related experts, researchers and practitioners to attend The 1st ANQC & 17th AQS. It will be a precious opportunity for quality friends to share and learn the knowledge and experience obtained through the research and development and practices in quality.

DATES AND VENUE

The First ANQ Congress & the 17th Asia Quality Sysmposium will be held from Sept. 23 to 25, 2003 at Jiuhua Spa & Resort Limited Company (Beijing). It is located in the northern suburb of the city, about 30 minutes' drive from Beijing International Airport.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGE

The official languages of the Conference are Chinese and English. There will be simultaneous interpretation for the two languages.

Notes

1. USD100 is applicable to one speaker for each paper.

Room Reservation
The secretariat has reserved a number of rooms at advantageous rates in Jiuhua Spa & Resort Limited Company (Beijing) for the participants. Deluxe rooms and superior rooms are equipped with computers and participants can surf on the Internet in their rooms.

Room reservation may be made by completing the Registration Form, which should be sent to the Secretariat before July 31, 2003.

Jiuhua Spa & Resort Limited Company (Beijing) is a deluxe comprehensive hotel. It is located in the northern part of Beijing and about 30 minutes' drive from Beijing International Airport.

Xiao Tang Shan, where Jiuhua Spa & Resort Limited Company (Beijing) is situated, is famous for its hot spring. Xiao Tang Shan was developed into royal garden in Yuan Dynasty and Tang Quan Palace was constructed on the site in Qing Dynasty. In 1995, Tang Quan Palace was restored and expanded into Jiuhua Spa & Resort Limited Company (Beijing), providing holiday, entertainment, healthcare and conference services.

Jiuhua Spa & Resort Limited Company (Beijing) has 1200 guestrooms with modern day conveniences, 8 restaurants catering for different tastes, over 60 meeting rooms of varied size and a wide range of recreation facilities.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Passport and Visa
A valid passport and visa for visiting China are required. Upon receiving your Registration Form, The conference Secretariat will send you a visa application form with which you can apply for an entry visa at the Chinese Embassy or the nearest consulate general.

Insurance
It is advisable that participants take out adequate travel and health insurance before leaving their countries.

Climate
September in Beijing is sunny and fine. The average daily temperature is 25 C, with the high at around 30 C and low at around 20 C.

Arrival in Beijing
Taxi fare from Beijing International Airport to Jiuhua Spa & Resort Limited Company (Beijing) is about USD10~12, or RMB80 ~100; Taxi fare from the downtown to Jiuhua Spa & Resort Limited Company (Beijing) is about USD20~25, or RMB120~200.

Electricity
The electricity is supplied at 220V, 50Hz in China.

Currency and Exchange
In China, only RMB is used. However, exchange centers can be found at airports, most hotels and large shopping centers. The rate of exchange is about US$ 1.00 = RMB 8.00 Yuan. When exchanging money, please keep your receipt by which you may change any remaining RMB back to foreign currency when leaving China.

Visa, Master, American Express, Diners Club, JCB, and other credit cards are accepted in many department stores and hotels. But it might be difficult to draw cash with credit cards.

The Bank of China and most hotels can cash travelers cheques issued by any foreign bank or financial institution. Participants will need to show a passport and pay a 0.75 percent commission. Travelers cheques signed over to a third party cannot be cashed in China, but can be presented for collection through the Bank of China. Reconfirmation of Air Ticket
The departure air ticket (both international and domestic) should be reconfirmed 72 hours in advance. It could be made by calling the airline office in Beijing.

Airport Tax
Domestic flights request RMB 50 per person and international flights RMB 90 per person.
